Primary school student Jin'an meets an older man from the mainland who has come to Hong Kong to set up chess endgame puzzles on the street. Jin'an seeks the man's guidance, hoping that improving his chess skills will help him win back his father's affection. Upon learning that Jin'an knows the elderly residents of the housing estate, the man agrees to teach him chess — intending to use Jin'an to swindle money from them.
Can these two lonely souls ultimately learn to face their solitude across the chessboard?
